2002 turnovers of Spanish ceramic tile manufacturers
It is followed in the rankings of Spanish tile manufacturers by the Porcelanosa Group and Pamesa.
The in-focus section contains the 2002 figures for the top 10 Spanish tile manufacturers in terms of turnover, exports, employees and production, published in cooperation with the magazine Tile Italia.
The figures were provided directly by the producer companies. The complete report on the turnovers of Spanish ceramic tile companies was published at the end of June in issue 3 of Tile Italia.
The turnovers of Spanish tile manufacturers
According to official figures provided by ASCER (Spanish ceramic tile manufacturers' association), 2002 was another record year for the Spanish ceramic tile industry. Production reached 651 million square metres (1.25% up on the 638 million square metres of 2001), while total sales rose by 2.8% to the record level of 663 million square metres (compared to 644.9 million square metres in 2001).
For the second year running, Spain has reported higher values than Italy in terms of both output and sales.
Italian production on the other hand has a higher value, totalling 5,319 million euro compared with Spain's 3,596 million euro. The average selling price of Italian tile is 8.74 euro/sq.m compared with Spain's 5.42 euro/sq.m.
Exports
Export turnover in 2002 amounted to 2,059 million euro (57.2% of total turnover), 3.6% up on 2001 (compared to the 6.2% increase in 2001 over 2000). In quantitative terms, exports accounted for 52.5% of sales, 2.8% up on 2001 to 348.6 million square metres.
The expanding markets included the United States (+10.5% in value), France (+3.9%), the UK (+11.1%) and Saudi Arabia (+6.5%). Falling markets included Germany (-11.4%), Portugal (-3%) and Israel (-15%).
Following the acquisition of Laufen A.G. in 1998, the Roca Group became one of the world?s foremost ceramic tile manufacturers with a production capacity of about 50 million square metres/year.
Tile production takes place in the following factories:
Spain: two factories (Barcelona and Castellon de la Plana)
Brazil: Incepa; USA: Laufen Ceramics (2 factories)
Peru: Celima
Bulgaria: Fayans Kaspichan.
The total turnover generated by the Roca Group's tile division in 2002 was about 350 million euro.

The Porcelanosa Group has 350 showrooms and sales branches in Spain and abroad. These structures employ about 1,500 people and in 2002 generated a turnover of 327.4 million euro (more than 60% outside Spain). The aggregate turnover of the Porcelanosa Group was 645.2 million euro.
Porcelanosa has a branch at Sassuolo in Italy along with brand stores in major Italian cities.
