Spanish glaze and colour producers resume growth

The industry has finally seen a return to positive territory in Q3 2020 with turnover up 0.6% on the same period in 2019. In September sales saw strong 8.8% growth.

The Spanish producers of frits, glazes and ceramic colours are returning to growth. According to figures published by the trade association ANFFECC, sales in September were up 8.8% on the same month in 2019. Demand picked up both in the Spanish domestic market (+5.8%) and even more markedly in export markets (+10.3%), despite restrictions on international travel.

The September results enabled the industry to return to positive territory in the third quarter of the year, despite the fact that the increase in revenues was just 0.6% with respect to the third quarter of the previous year. Although it has not published forecasts for the end of the 2020 financial year due to the continued uncertain outlook, ANFFECC notes that the effects of the Covid-19 crisis are still very much in evidence and that there is still plenty of work to do to make up for the losses of recent months.

With regard to the epidemic, the association urges the central government to support export-oriented sectors (exports account for 70% of the Spanish glaze and colour producers' turnover) by introducing measures to ensure the continuation of industrial activity and to protect jobs, including the easing of the tax burden on companies and employees.
