Ceramica Sant'Agostino expands its range of high-end products
Ceramica Sant’Agostino (Ferrara, Italy) is renowned for its style, design and trend-setting innovation, with a strong focus on decorative tiles for both floors and walls. The company has made a series of major investments in recent years, culminating in May 2017 in the start-up of a new production line for large-size tiles.
The heart of the new plant is the Lamgea 33000 mouldless press, designed in a fully customised version capable of producing base panels in the maximum sizes of 1200x4800 mm and 900x5400 mm, which are then cut to produce large-size submultiples using the pre-firing cutting system installed on the machine.
“We have no intention of reinventing ourselves as a large-size panel and slab manufacturer,” Filippo Manuzzi, CEO and brand manager of Ceramica Sant’Agostino, told us. “Our aim was simply to extend and complete our range with the addition of two larger sizes, 120x120 cm and 90x180 cm. These are now created by cutting unfired large size panels produced on the Lamgea press.” Like the rest of the company’s range, the two new sizes are produced in a 10 mm thickness.
This new production line increased the company’s yearly production to about 4 million sq.m and joined the four lines already in operation – three for the production of tiles in sizes up to 90x90 cm and 60x120 cm and one for rectified white body double-fired wall tiles and smaller-sized porcelain tiles. The Ceramica Sant’Agostino brand is renowned for its wide range that includes more than 50 collections spanning concrete, wood, fabric and marble-effect tiles and cement tiles, all produced in square and rectangular sizes from 20x20 cm up to 90x180 cm, including strips and trim pieces.
Along with the Lamgea press, the last investment involved installing a new dryer, a glazing line, a Sacmi Eko kiln and three BMR finishing lines, one complete (polishing, honing, cutting and grinding) and two for cutting and grinding. These also serve the three traditional lines where the company produces 90x90 cm and 60x120 cm sizes.
Ceramica Sant’Agostino closed the year 2017 recording a 4% increase in sales, of which 70% on foreign markets.
