Cevisama: final figures confirm downturn
The official attendance figures for the 27th Cevisama (10-13 February 2009) confirm the anticipated falls announced by the organisers several weeks ago.
The Valencia show ended with an approximately 19% drop in attendance to a total of 82,252, including 11,402 foreign visitors from 141 countries. The share of professionals in attendance remained strong, with architects, interior designers and industrial designers making up 20% of the total.
Spanish visitors accounted for the most significant fall (20%), while international attendance dropped by 18%.
Amongst foreign visitors, there was an increase in numbers from the Middle East, up from 5% to 9% of total international attendance. There was also an increase in attendance by African professionals, especially those from countries in the Mediterranean area (up from 6% to 9%).
American attendance remained stable (5% of total foreign visitors) while European attendance fell (69% of the total compared to 75% in 2008). About a quarter of these were from Eastern Europe.
The best represented countries were Italy, France, Portugal and Germany, in that order. Within Europe, they were followed by Great Britain, Greece, Poland and Belgium.
The 28th Cevisama will be held from 9 to 12 February 2010.
