EFI Cretaprint donates a printer to ITC-AICE

The machine will be installed in the pilot plant of the Spanish Ceramic Technology Institute, which is working on new solutions for decarbonising the ceramic industry.

EFI Cretaprint has donated one of its latest-generation digital printers to the Ceramic Technology Institute in Almazora, Spain, which is developing new environmentally friendly solutions for ceramic tile production. The machine will be installed in the pilot plant at the research centre, set up with the support of the Valencian Institute for Business Competitiveness (IVACE).

The operation is in line with EFI Cretaprint’s longstanding commitment to innovation and environmental sustainability through the adoption of a production process that consumes fewer resources and generates less waste.

EFI’s CEO Frank Pennisi, who was present at the signing of the transfer of the printer, commented:

“The ceramic sector has proven to be very innovative and resilient. Ceramics has been the cradle of single-pass technology for EFI and the reason why the Castellón headquarters has become the company’s global R&D centre for high-productivity industrial printing. We are fully aware that the main pain points of the sector are the need to reduce its environmental impact and energy costs, and, for this reason, we have decided to contribute actively to the development of new technological solutions that allow progress in this area.”

At its pilot plant, ITC-AICE is investigating the feasibility of using clean energies in ceramic manufacturing processes to reduce CO2 levels in the atmosphere by around 80% and to cut gas and electricity costs, which in Spain have risen by more than 140% and 160% respectively in the last year.
