LB supplies technologies to Comet Granito in India
LB will supply its dry powder handling and colouring technology and Rolltech aesthetic kit for Comet Granito’s new large slab factory
The new plant in Morbi (Gujarat) owned by Comet Granito, one of India’s largest porcelain tile manufacturers operating under the Granier Ceramica brand name, is due to come on stream by mid-2022. One of the most significant plant projects currently underway in India, the new factory will have a production capacity of 8 million sqm/year of large size surfaces, including “king size” slabs – “the product of the present and the future” according to the company’s Chairman and CEO Pintu Padaliya – as well as sub-sizes. Once the plant is fully operational, the Indian group will have a total installed capacity of around 19-20 million sqm.
For the technologies upstream of the shaping department, which consists of two Continua+ lines, Comet Granito has commissioned Italian company LB to design and supply an automated powder management system with a technological tower equipped with the latest technologies, including the most efficient dry colouring system Easy Color Boost. The scope of supply also includes a Rolltech aesthetic kit for creating technical porcelain slabs (including 20 mm thick versions) with a textured stone-effect decoration.
Comet Granito’s new plant was approved around three years ago and represents a particularly significant investment even for the vibrant and fast-growing Indian market. The new products will be sold on the domestic market and exported to Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, USA, Europe, Russia, Israel, China and Australia.
