Sacmi proposes single firing for tableware
The tableware industry has been seeing some major new developments recently. One of these is the latest technological innovation from Sacmi Tableware called Smart Porcelain, which introduces the concept of single firing to tableware production. This brings numerous advantages. In addition to the benefit of using just one kiln, it is also possible to use cordierite supports, which are much less expensive than those made of silicon carbide. Lifetime of the supports is also much longer because the number of firing cycles is halved.
Further advantages concern handling and above all energy saving. The Smart Porcelain production line from Sacmi is able to cut gas and electricity consumption by 25-30% compared to conventional double firing lines. Two strategies have been adopted to achieve this result: a body specially designed for the low-temperature porcelain production developed in cooperation with Imerys, and the new firing curves that can achieve a finished product in a single cycle at 1250°C and in a reducing atmosphere, thereby eliminating the need for double firing.
