Winners of the 3rd edition of ADI Ceramic Design Award announced at Cersaie 2016
The six winners and the recipient of the honourable mention in the third edition of the ADI Ceramics Design Award were announced during Cersaie 2016 and the awards presented directly by the panel of judges: Silvia Stanzani, designer, Oscar G. Colli, co-founder of the magazine Il Bagno oggi e domani, and Carlo Branzaglia, Chairman of ADI, Emilia-Romagna. The presentation was held in the “maritime” setting of the Cer-Sail exhibition and was introduced by the Chairman of Confindustria Ceramica’s promotional activities commission Emilio Mussini.
The ADI Ceramics Design Award, launched in collaboration with ADI - Associazione per il Disegno Industriale as part of the cultural activities of the ‘building, dwelling thinking’ programme, honours the most innovative products showcased by the Italian ceramic industry. The judges faced a tough challenge and in a day of non-stop work studied and appraised the products exhibited at Cersaie 2016, and selected the most worthy in terms of originality, technology and innovation.
The winners of the floor and wall tile sector were the companies Ornamenta, with the product “Oplus” created in collaboration with Alessio Zanzarella; Piemme, with its “Bits&Pieces” designed by Gordon Guillaumier; Viva by Emilceramica, which impressed the judges for its “L’H” surface designed by Giancarlo Macchioni.
The winners of the bathroom furnishing sector were Bertocci Bathroom Accessories for the product “Fly”, designed by Menghello, Paolello Associati; Gruppo Tre S, for the functional and innovative concept of the “Muse / Scuretto” shower tray and cubicle designed by Marc Sadler; and Verum Italy, which partnered with Adriano Design to create “Due Acca”, an utterly original interpretation of a bathroom tap.
The honourable mention went to the “Sharp” washbasin collection from Simas, for its unconventional use of vitreous china in the design by Simone Anzellini.
“This is a great opportunity for the winners,” noted ADI Emilia-Romagna chairman Carlo Branzaglia. “The winning products are shortlisted for the ADI Design Index 2017, our annual publication featuring the very best of Italian design and including different types of products and product systems.” Moreover, in the last edition of Compasso d’Oro ADI, one of the world’s most prestigious design awards that saw the submission of 1,200 products and services, one of the thirteen winners was Treemme Rubinetterie with 5mm, winner of the ADI Ceramics Design Award 2014; and of the 50 honourable mentions no fewer than four went to companies that won the Award in the previous two editions.
“Design is becoming an increasingly important factor for companies in the ceramic sector,” Emilio Mussini said. “There is growing awareness that Italian ceramics can excel worldwide provided that companies focus on this aspect, especially in partnership with expert designers.”
