Ceramic World Review unveils the rankings of the world's largest ceramic tile producers

Marazzi Group is the world’s largest ceramic tile manufacturer with a 2008 output of 110 million sq.m. The group led by Filippo Marazzi tops the rankings unveiled in the recently released July issue of Ceramic World Review, the leading international ceramic sector magazine published by Tile Edizioni.

Marazzi, the only Italian manufacturer included in the rankings, is followed by the Mexican group Lamosa and by the UAE-based group Rak Ceramics.
The rankings were drawn up on the basis of quantities produced in 2008, the only parameter shared by manufacturers whose products differ greatly in terms of quality. Most of the groups featured in the rankings are based in developing countries and concentrate on the production of medium-low quality products catering for local building requirements.

In the majority of cases, the quantities produced in 2008 do not vary significantly from those produced the previous year. There are just two exceptions. Following acquisitions made last year, the Thai group SCG, owner of the well-known Cotto brand, has become the largest Thai ceramic tile producer with an output of 104 million sq.m and has risen to fourth place in the rankings; and the Egyptian giant Cleopatra has started up a large facility in Egypt bringing production capacity to 104 million sq.m.
The other companies featuring in the rankings are: New Zhong Yuan (China), Prime Group (Vietnam), New Pearl (China), Cersanit (Poland) and Mulia (Indonesia).
