Spanish tile exports increased in 2002
03/04/2003 - On Cww we present the tables about the official figures released by Ascer for production and exports of tiles for the whole of 2002. They reveal increases in both cases. Production rose to 645 million square metres, just 1% up on 2001; exports increased by 5.2% in quantity to a total of 357 million square metres but just 1.6% in value. Turnover exceeded 2 billion euro, some 52% of which is generated by European markets (39% from the European Union and 13% from the other European countries).
Sales continued to hold strong in the United States, confirming the country's position as the leading export market for Spanish tiles with a 10.48% increase in value and an 18.3% increase in quantities in 2002. In 2002, the most disappointing markets for Spanish exports were Germany (-11.4%), Portugal (-3%), Israel (-15%) and Italy (-2.9%).
