USA, building permits for 1.8 million housing units23/1/2003 - The building sector in the United States has surpassed even the most optimistic expectations. According to the Italian Trade Commission (ICE) office in New York, the number of new building sites increased by 5% in the last month of the year to 1.8 million. Building permits also rose sharply, with a 8.2% increase (1,880 million) according to the Department of Commerce. Both figures are higher than analysts' expectations, which predicted a negative trend for the sector.
