Major urban redevelopment project at a green site in Tokyo
The development is due to be completed by 2023 and will involve an investment of 580 billion yen
Construction has begun on a large-scale urban redevelopment project extending over a vast 8.1 hectare area in the central Toranomon-Azabudai area of Tokyo, a kind of “city within a city” but with the intimacy of a small village surrounded by lush vegetation.
The complex will consist of several buildings, including a 330 metre main tower, 1,400 residential units, offices, shops and a luxury hotel. The development is due to be completed by 2023 and will involve an investment of 580 billion yen. Located between Roppongi Hills and Toranomon Hills, two architectural icons of Tokyo, the concept behind the new development is that of an open space in harmony with nature in the heart of Tokyo.
It will include 24,000 sq.m of green space, while 100% of energy needs will be met by renewable sources. The city will host around 20,000 employees and 3,500 residents and will welcome 25-35 million visitors a year.
