Emilceramica introduces automatic computerised warehouse
In order to improve warehouse management, the Emilceramica Group has started up a new project to computerise its logistic service relating to finished product shipment and merchandising. The automatic computerised warehouse will be able to identify materials using Track + Trace® technology, and in fact represents the most extensive installation of this technology in the world given that it will be used for all the Group’s brands, namely Emilceramica, Ergon, Acif, Provenza and Viva, subsequent to the unification of the warehouses.
This cutting-edge system allows all articles to be identified by means of bar codes, and then traced by means of a software program integrated with the use of a wi-fi network connecting the operator to the system via a monitor and optical reader with palmtop. Each lift truck is equipped with a monitor that displays the materials to be loaded and the best path for reaching them.
The operator loads the barcode data by means of a reader and transmits pick-up of the material, thereby initiating the shipment procedure. The main advantages are: shorter loading times, elimination of errors and optimisation of paths for tracing articles for shipment. This last factor reduces lift truck traffic by around 30%, resulting in lower consumption of fuel and accessories.
