Sicer expands in Spain with acquisition of Cerfrit

Two years after the acquisition of the Indian site in Morbi, Sicer has strengthened its position in Spain with the acquisition of the Cerfrit production facility.

The Fiorano Modenese-based group Sicer, one of the world leaders in the production of special chemicals for ceramic glazing and decoration, is continuing its international expansion with the acquisition of the production plant of Cerfrit, a Spanish glaze and colour producer located in the heart of the Castellón ceramic district.

The transaction strengthens the Sicer Group’s position in the country and will allow it to acquire a highly specialised 9,000 sqm production facility complete with laboratories and offices on a total site area of over 30,000 sqm. The plant has a large frit production department with a capacity of over 40,000 tonnes per year and the capability to produce latest-generation glazes and grits.

“We are delighted with this acquisition,” comment Gianfranco Padovani and Giuliano Ferrari, shareholders and directors of Sicer. “Sicer has been present in the Spanish market since 2000 and had long felt the need to acquire a suitable plant to meet the needs of a highly demanding and competitive sector. We would like to thank our Spanish colleagues and look forward to having a successful and productive working relationship with them.”

Matteo Bruni, Private Equity Partner of Azimut Libera Impresa SGR which has controlled Sicer since November 2020, agrees. “We are consolidating our growth path with a strategic acquisition that will enable the Group to further increase its productive and competitive strength.”

Coming two years after the acquisition of the Indian site in Morbi, the deal marks the continuation of a business plan focused on internationalisation that aims to establish a strong manufacturing presence and technical support in the world’s largest ceramic districts. Sicer currently operates production facilities in Italy, Spain, Mexico, Indonesia and India.
