The Winning Projects

RESIDENTIAL CATEGORY: THE LINE HOUSE
The Line House, located in Springfield, Missouri, utilizes about 1,000 square metres of Italian ceramic tile (Ceramica Casalgrande Padana) on its interior and exterior floors. The home is divided into three parts – the main house, the library, and the workshop. Commenting on the choice of tiles, principal architect Matthew Hufft said, “I choose Italian ceramic tile for its beauty, durability and its capability to be used both outdoors and indoors, which allowed me to connect the various pieces of the residence with a uniform material.”

INSTITUTIONAL CATEGORY: SAN DIEGO COUNTY REGIONAL AIRPORT AUTHORITY
The project for the new terminal at the busiest commercial single runway airport in the United States, used by more than 16 million passengers a year, presented a unique challenge to architect Bob Bolton. Due to their outstanding technical characteristics, Italian ceramic tiles were chosen to replace more than 30,000 square metres of original non-ceramic floor. According to Bolton, “Ceramiche Caesar porcelain tile was chosen after extensive testing of the product. Several months and millions of passengers later, this is proving an excellent choice.”

COMMERCIAL CATEGORY: THE BAY – PLACE FLEUR DE LYS
The jury was particularly impressed with the number of different Italian tile manufacturers used in the renovation of “The Bay” section of the Place Fleur De Lys Shopping Centre, located in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. Ruscio Studio chose Italian tiles from Pastorelli, Refin, Piemmegres, Cooperativa Ceramica d’Imola and Kronos to complete the expansion of the mall corridor. According to Robert Ruscio, “The Italians are leaders in the production of porcelain tile plus Italy is the fashion capital of the world – making Italian tile the perfect choice for a shopping mall.”
